The White House has officially launched the U.S. Cyber Trust Mark, a voluntary cybersecurity labeling program to help consumers make informed decisions about the security of their internet-connected devices.
The logo indicates that a product has been tested against cybersecurity criteria established by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and certified by accredited labs.
Unlike the EU Cyber Resilience Act, which is mandatory for products with digital elements, manufacturers can voluntarily submit their products for testing to earn the Cyber Trust Mark. Accredited labs will evaluate products against established NIST cybersecurity standards, which include features such as:
- Strong default passwords
- Regular software updates
- Data protection and vulnerability management
