By September 10, 2024October 18th, 2024News

The SonicWall 2024 Cyberthreat Report provides threat intelligence for the past year.

In 2023, SonicWall’s Capture Labs threat researchers observed an 11% YoY increase for malware attacks (6.06 billion malware attacks in 2023) , 117% for encrypted threats and 659% for cryptojacking.

While one would expect that threat actors adopt new malware, they found that never-before-seen malware fell by 38% YoY, meaning that the pace of innovation slowed, at least temporarily. Still, novel phishing campaigns utilize QR codes to bypass file scanning technology, and threat actors continue adopting ChatGPT and other generative AI technology to refine phishing attempts.
